4 Cost-Free Ways to Increase Your Home's Value

At the Young Team, for over two decades we have helped thousands of sellers all over Northeast Ohio. We have always stressed that the home preparation process is just as important as actually putting your home on the market. This completely changes the outcome and results of the sale of your home.

Before you list your home for sale, it’s important to make sure it’s in the best possible condition. This means taking care of any necessary repairs, decluttering, depersonalizing and cleaning so that potential buyers can see the full potential of your home.

1. Make Easy Repairs

Take a close look at your home and make a list of any necessary repairs. This may include fixing leaky faucets, patching holes in the walls, or replacing any broken light fixtures. Making these repairs before you list your home can make a big difference in how potential buyers view your property. Some repairs have a much bigger return on investment than others!

We highly suggest setting a budget for your repairs and prioritizing which ones to focus on from there. Start setting a budget by knowing how much your home is worth.

2. Declutter

The old adage, “less is more”! Declutter is an easy and free way to help get better results. Remove any unnecessary items from your home to make it appear more spacious and organized. This may include removing:

  • Personal items
  • Extra furniture
  • Excess clutter from countertops & other surfaces.

Consider renting a storage unit to store any items you don’t need while your home is on the market.

3. Depersonalize

Do you have family photos from your honeymoon hanging out? pictures of your kids and dogs? Diplomas or lifetime achievements hanging on the wall? These are all things that distract buyers while they’re looking at your home and potentially make them struggle to envision themselves living there. There is an art to having a home feel warm and inviting, without having personalized items that distracts the buyers who come to look at your home.

4. Deep Clean

Give your home a thorough cleaning to make it look its best for potential buyers. This includes cleaning floors, windows, and surfaces, as well as deep cleaning any carpets or upholstery. Pay special attention to the kitchen and bathrooms, which are often key selling points for homes.

By completing these 4 tasks, you’ll be able to prepare your home for sale and make a great first impression on potential buyers.
