**IMPORTANT TO KNOW**
- Do NOT request a shut off; you must request a transfer.
- You will want utilities to transfer in to, or out of your name for the day of possession. Your possession date may be the same day of closing, unless a post possession period was agreed upon.
- If the closing or possession dates change, you will need to make sure the utility transfers reflect the new date(s).
- In Ohio, water and sewer companies will not let you transfer the accounts in to, or out of your name until the sale/transfer of the home is reflected on the county’s auditor website. We suggest you call the water and sewer companies 24-48 hours post closing.
- It is the seller’s responsibility to call and have utilities transferred out of their names, and to pay any final balances/request final bills.
- It is the buyer’s responsibility to call to have things transferred into their name, and set up their accounts.
- The seller does NOT need to provide any of the buyers information to the utility companies.
- For seller’s – Request your final water and sewer bills. If there was an escrow hold for your final water/sewer bills per contract; you will need to either send the FINAL bills to the title company and they can pay them out of that escrow hold and reimburse you the difference. OR You may pay the bills, and send the FINAL paid receipts to the title company and they will release that escrow hold back to you. *Note the bills must say FINAL*
